Battle of Hakusukinoe

Wikipedia

In 663 Battle of Hakusukinoe (??????????????????; Hakusukinoe no Tatakai), also known as Battle of Hakusonkou, took place in what is today South Korea between the Japanese, in a response to the summon of aid by Baekje (Kudara), and the allied forces of Silla and Tang Dynasty of China. The allied forces won the battle, and it was a major turning point in the political presence of Japan in Korean Peninsula; after this, Japan had lost any further significant cultural contact with the Korean Peninsula.

Many descendants of Kudara had immigrated to Japan, bringing technologies and cultural advances with them.

During 6th to 7th centuries, the Korean peninsula was divided into three countries, Baekje, Silla and Goguryeo. In China, Sui Dynasty, founded in 581, had a territorial ambition in Korean Peninsula, attempting three major invasions of Goguryeo in vain. After replacing Sui in 618, Tang Dynasty had repeatedly intervened in the affairs in Korea. To benefit from this new situation, Silla allied with Tang and defeated Goguryeo and Baekje.
