Beijing city wall The city wall of Beijing was 23.5 km long. The thickness on the ground was 20m and on the top 12m. The height of the wall was 15m and it had nine gates. This wall stood for nearly 530 years, but in 1965 it it gave way to the 2nd Ring Road (Beijing)|2nd Ring Road of Beijing. Only in the southeast, near the Central Station, stands one part of the wall. Three City gate|gates of the city wall are also intact (the north Gate, the south Gate and Qianmen).
