Charles Elliott

Charles Elliott was a New Zealand politician. He represented the Waimea electorate in the 2nd New Zealand Parliament, but resigned before the end of his term. He did not serve in any subsequent Parliaments. He also held political office in the provinces of Nelson and Marlborough.
The name also refers to Captain Charles Elliot of the Royal Navy. He was made superintedent in Macao for British affairs, and subsequently he would be the representative of Great Britain in the Canton, China|Canton region throughout the First Opium War. He led the British community during the diplomatic turmoil that was brought on by opium smugglers such as Jardine Matheson
