China Cargo Airlines is a cargo airline based in Shanghai, People's Republic of China. It is China's first all-cargo airline operating dedicated freight services using China Eastern Airlines route structure. Its main base is Shanghai Hongqiao Airport|Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, with a hub at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

History


The airline was established on 30 July 1998 and started operations in October 1998. It was founded as a joint venture between China Eastern Airlines (70%) and China Ocean Shipping (30%).

China Cargo Airlines operates the following services (at January 2005):

  • Domestic scheduled destinations: Beijing and Shanghai.

Fleet


The China Cargo Airlines fleet consists of the following aircraft (at July 2005):

  • 6 McDonnell Douglas MD-11|McDonnell Douglas MD-11F

  • 1 Boeing 747|Boeing 747-200F


On 8 June 2005 China Eastern Airlines announced that it would buy 2 Boeing 747|Boeing 747-400F freighter aircraft, valued at about $428 million at list prices, for its China Cargo Airlines cargo subsidiary. Deliveries to take place in July 2006 and August 2007 (ref: Air International, July 2005).
