China National Highway 112, despite being a series-100 China National Highway, does not begin Beijing, but begins in Gaobeidian, Tianjin, and forms a long ring route. (A joke says that should Beijing attempt to build the 7th Ring Road, then the 8th Ring Road would be China National Highway 112.) The G in front of the highway route numbers stands for 国 (pinyin: guo), meaning nation or country. Eleven China National Highway routes depart from Beijing in virtually all compass directions:
