In mainland China, mobile phone numbers start with 13 and usually have 11 digits. The Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau are not part of this numbering plan, and use the country codes 852 and 853 respectively.

The Republic of China on Taiwan currently uses the List of country calling codes|international calling code of 886 while mainland China uses 86; if Taiwan switched to the telephone numbering plan of mainland China, then its international dialling code would be 86-6, one digit removed from its current dialling code.
