One of the ancient and most unorthodox styles of Kung-Fu is the Drunken style, also called Dunkard's Style or Drunken Boxing

The strength of the style comes from quick, fast power generated from awkard positions, which allows the practicioner to keep his opponent off guard and off balance. Practioners of the art constantly sway, wobble, and stumble in order to appear drunk. The hand form is comprised of an open fist with the back of the hand turned towards the opponent, and the first two fingers of the hand touching the tip of the thumb to give the appearance of holding a cup.

According to legend, the history of they style begins with a rabble-rousing former soldier in China that decided to become a Shaolin monk. But his consistant drinking and quarrelsome temper annoyed the other monks, and they locked him out of the temple when he went out for one of his drinking sprees. When he returned he was outraged to find himself locked out, and challenged the monks to a fight. Inebriated as he was, he defeated his foes and the Drunkard's Style began.

The most famous style of Drunken Kung-Fu is Eight Immortals Form. It refers to the ancient Chinese legend of the Eight Immortals whom were invited to attend a banquet. At the banquet, they became drunk and wild, picking fights with the king. All of the kingdom's guards attacked the drunken immortals in response but were confused by the Immortals stumbling, almost accidental strikes, blocks, and dodges. The Eight Immortals Form is the most common form taught today.

In addition to the base Drunken Style, there are numerous variations on Drunken techniques. Drunken forms can be ( and are) applied to the Five Animals style such as found in Drunk Monkey or Drunken Crane and has also appeared in variant forms in many style of martial arts.

One of the more famous masters of Drunken Style is cinema action star Jackie Chan
