Farewell My Concubine (zh-cp|c=霸王別姬|p=B??w??ng Bi?? Jī) is a 1993 China/Hong Kong film|movie directed by Chen Kaige written by Lillian Lee and Wei Lu starring Leslie Cheung, Zhang Fengyi, Gong Li, Ge You and Ren Lei. Farewell My Concubine is a tale of love, friendship, and the turmoils of Chinese history set against the backdrop of Peking opera sub-culture. The film's title is taken from that of one of the best-known Peking operas. In it, Xiang Yu, a famous warlord, bids farewell to his concubine, Yu Ji, who dances a last dance before they both commit suicide. In the movie, Zhang Fengyi plays Xiang Yu as an operatic role and Leslie Cheung is Yu Ji.
