1 Introduction
George Chinnery

George Chinnery (?????????) was an English people|English painter spending most his life in Asia, especially India and North China and South China|southern China. He was born on 5 January 1774 in London.

He learnt painting in England and became a famous portrait painter in Ireland by 1802. He married his wife Marianne on 19th April, 1799 in Dublin, Ireland.

George Chinnery ran into debt later and went to India in 1802. He there re-established himself as a famous painter. He again left India in 1825 for debt and went to southern China. While in China, he mentored Lam Qua, who eventually became a reknowned medical portrait painter. He travelled around the Pearl River Delta, between Macao and Canton, Canton, China|Canton (now Guangzhou). He had been to Hong Kong after British seizing the city and got sick. He died in Macao on 30 May, 1852.

He left a lot of pictures about early half 19th Century in Pearl River Delta, depicting the life and landscape in the area of the era.
