Han Sui followed Ma Chao against Cao Cao he joined Ma Chao in the Battle of Tong Gate. During this battle, Cao Cao tried to create a rift between the two friends. Since he knew Han Sui, he called him over for a parley. Soldiers reported to Ma Chao that they had seen the two engaging in free conversation, and Ma Chao grew suspicious and angry. Han Sui, although he had no dishonourable intentions, knew that he could not now return to Ma Chao, and thus surrendered to Cao Cao.
