The Hong Kong Commercial Daily is a broadsheet business-oriented general newspaper with close ties to mainland China. Established in 1952, it is one of the few newspapers authorized by the Hong Kong SAR to print legal announcements, and also the only Hong Kong-based newspaper allowed to circulate freely in mainland China. It aims to help the Hong Kong people understand Economy of China|mainland Chinese economy, and mainland Chinese readers to understand both Hong Kong and foreign economies.

With a strong focus on business news, Hong Kong Commercial Daily is completely in Chinese language|Chinese and reports on the usual range of local, national, and international news, with pages on entertainment, sports, horse racing, mainland Law|legal issues, and tourist hot spots in Hong Kong. In addition to weekly supplements on various lifestyle/culture topics (e.g. cosmetics), the newspaper would occasionally have special features on social, historical, or political events, collect these features later, and publish them in book form.

Hong Kong Commercial Daily's readership, according to its own estimates, has reached 500,000, and its circulation was 250,000 in April 2002, with about half its sales in mainland China. Its target audience are investors and business executives on both sides of the border with strong ties to the other side, Hong Kong employees of company|companies based in mainland China, and Politics|politically-minded individuals with an interest in the HKSAR-People's Republic of China|PRC relationship.

According to Hong Kong Commercial Daily, advertising through it is an effective way for Hong Kong-based businesses to reach the mainland market and for mainland companies to reach the Hong Kong market, because of its free-distribution status in mainland China.
