Honourable Ida Chong is the Minister of Advanced Education (since December 2004) and British Columbia Liberal MLA for Oak Bay-Gordon Head.
Born in Victoria, British Columbia and raised in Gordon Head, Chong began her political career in 1993 as a municipal councillor for the District of Saanich. Since being elected as MLA in 1996, Chong has help various posts:
- Official Opposition critic for small business, tourism and culture
- deputy critic for women's equality
- chair of the Official Opposition Committee on the Economy
- Minister of State for Women's and Seniors' Services January-December 2004
- member of the Treasury Board
- member of the Select Standing Committee on Crown Corporations
- member of the Select Standing Committee on Parliamentary Reform
- chair of the Government Caucus Committee on Economy and Government Operations
- Vancouver Island Coastal Caucus
