Kowloon Motor Bus Holdings Limited (KMB) is one of the major public transport companies serving Hong Kong.



Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited (KMB), founded in 1933, is one of the larger privately-owned public bus transportation service firms in the world. The company possesses over 4,200 buses (around 4000 of them are double deckers), and operating over 400 franchised routes with over 13,000 staff. In 2004, over 80% of the buses are air conditioning|air-conditoned, and the percentage is kept increasing. All buses are equipped with Octopus card|Octopus smart card payment system.

KMB is the first franchised bus company in Hong Kong that:

  • introduced air-conditioning franchised bus service (as early as in 1975);

  • introduced super-low-floor (SLF) double deckers<br>(and the first SLF double decker in the world)(1997);

  • implement ISO 'Quality Systems' throughout its entire organisation(1999). It got ISO9001:2000 in 2001.


The major service area of the company includes Kowloon and New Territories. It also operates Victoria Harbour|cross-harbour tunnel routes with New World First Bus and Citybus (Hong Kong)|Citybus.

It is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange as Kowloon Motor Bus Holdings Limited sehk|0062.



The Long Win Bus|Long Win Bus Company Limited operates franchised bus routes for Hong Kong International Airport|Airport and North Lantau Island in Hong Kong.

The Sun Bus Limited operates non-franchised bus services in Hong Kong, serving large residential estates, employers, and schools.

Other joint ventures include:
  • Cross-border bus services between Lok Ma Chau of Hong Kong and Huangguang in Shenzhen.

  • Park Island Transport Company Ltd., offering residential bus and ferry services for Park Island, a residential estate in Ma Wan

KMB also operates bus service in mainland China, including Beijing, Tianjin, Wuxi and Dalian through joint ventures.
