Political parties in Macau lists political party|political parties in politics of Macau|Macau.
Macau is a state in which political parties don't play a role.



The general rule on naming applies. That means: the parties are named in the English translation and the original native name is placed on the first line of the article unless the native form is more commonly used in English than the English form. Though some civic groups that put forward lists at the elections exist. The following is a listing of those associations that participated in the last legislative elections:

  • Convergence for Development (Converg?ncia para o Desenvolvimento)

  • General Union for Development of Macau (Uni?o Geral para o Desenvolvimento de Macau)

  • New Democratic Macau Association (Associa??o de Novo Macau Democr?tico)

  • Union for Development (Uni?o para o Desenvolvimento)

  • Union for Promoting Progress (Uni?o Promotora para o Progresso)


note There are no formal political parties, but civic associations are used instead

Macau has no formal political parties. However, key groups representing the interests of business, labor, and social welfare are important. Except those above, others that participated in the September 1996 Legislative Assembly elections, the last to be held before Macau returned to China's sovereignty, were: Associa??o de Amizade (AMI, Friendship Association), Alian?a para o Desenvolvimento da Economia (ADE, Alliance for the Development of the Economy), Associa??o dos Empregados e Assalariados (AEA, Employees and Wage-Earners Association), and Associa??o pela Democracia e Bem-Estar Social de Macau (ADBSM, Association for the Democracy and Social Well-Being of Macau). The APPEM won the most votes in the 1996 elections.
