Ma Yin (??????), posthumously named Chu Wumuwang (????????????), was the first ruler of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period state of Chu (Ten Kingdoms)|Chu (楚). Ma Yin fought against the rebel Yang Xingmi (?????????), who became the emperor of Wu|Wu (Ten Kingdoms) (???) under the generals Sun Ru ?????? and Liu Jianfeng ?????????. In 896, he became military commissioner (jiedushi) of a precursor kingdom named Hunan (??????) and in 907 he became the king of the new kingdom of Chu. His reign was notable for its peace and low taxes. Following Ma Yin's death, succession struggles followed, eventually leading to the fall of Chu to the Southern Tang in 951. After Ma Yin died the leadership was subject to struggle and conflict which continued until the fall of the kingdom.
