Matthew K. Fong (Chinese language|Chinese: 鄺杰靈; pinyin: Ku??ng Ji??l??ng) is a Republican Party (United States)|Republican politican from California and former state treasurer. Fong, the adopted son of former Democratic Party (United States)|Democratic California Secretary of State March Fong Eu, graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1975 and from law school at Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles in 1985. He served as an United States Air Force|Air Force officer and practiced law from 1985 onward. He served as Vice Chairman of the state Board of Equalization from 1990 to 1994 and as California State Treasurer|State Treasurer until 1998. In the U.S. Senate election, 1998, he challenged sitting California United States Senate|Senator Barbara Boxer unsuccessfully. Since then, he has returned to the practice of law and was appointed by President of the United States|President George W. Bush as the chairman of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation Advisory Board.
