Michael Chong (born November 22, 1971 in Windsor, Ontario|Windsor, Ontario) is a Canada|Canadian politician. He is a current member of the Canadian House of Commons, representing the riding of Wellington???Halton Hills for the Conservative Party of Canada|Conservative Party.

Chong was raised near the town of Fergus, Ontario|Fergus in Wellington County, Ontario|Wellington County. He studied Political Science at University of Trinity College|Trinity College in the University of Toronto, and worked in information technology after graduating. He has held senior positions at Barclays Bank and the Research Capital Corporation. Shortly before his election, he worked as Chief Information Officer for the National Hockey League Players' Association, and was a senior technology consultant at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

In 1997, he helped to to co-found The Dominion Institute, which attempts to raise the national awareness of Canadian history. He served on the board of the Groves Memorial Hospital from 2002 to 2004, and currently sits on the Corporation of Trinity College.

Chong became involved with the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada and the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario during the 1990s. He first ran for parliament in the Canadian federal election, 2000|federal election of 2000 as a Progressive Conservative, in the riding of Wellington???Wellington. He finished a distant third, behind Liberal Party of Canada|Liberal Member of Parliament Lynn Myers and former Tory MP John Reimer, who was then running for the Canadian Alliance.

The Progressive Conservatives merged with the Canadian Alliance in early 2004 to create the Conservative Party of Canada. Chong joined the new party and was elected under its banner in the Canadian federal election, 2004|2004 federal election, defeating Liberal Bruce Hood by over 2,000 votes.

He is primarily known as a fiscal conservative.
