Ten years after the opening of the Airport Expressway Beijing's sole expressway to the airport, traffic on the express has increased. The capacity of vehicles on the expressway, as of 2003, sometimes is in excess of the number originally projected for (up to 80,000 vehicles/day). As a result, traffic often piles up, especially around Siyuan Bridge. Completion is projected for mid-2006. The expressway will be c. 11 km in length. The Northern Airport Line is expected to run from north of the Yandan exit on the Jingcheng Expressway to the western end of Beijing Airport.
