There is a section of the Great Wall of China|Great Wall there. The Battle of Pingxingguan was fought there between the 8th Route Army of the Chinese Communist Party and the Imperial Japanese Army on September 25, 1937. There is a 6,188 m long railway tunnel there, which was opened in 1971.
