Red Sorghum Wikipedia

Red Sorghum (zh-cp|c=?????????|p=H??ng G??oli??ng) is a 1987 Cinema of China|Chinese film, the first to be directed by Zhang Yimou, based on a novel by Mo Yan. The film stars Gong Li, in her debut. Like Zhang's later work, The Road Home (1999), Red Sorghum is narrator|narrated by the main characters' grandson, but Red Sorghum lacks the flashback framing device of The Road Home (we never see the narrator). Important to the plot are a field of sorghum and a brewery/distillery of sorghum liquor.
