Shanghai International Circuit is a brand new motor racing venue, situated near Shanghai in China. It was the venue of the inaugural Formula One Chinese Grand Prix on 26th September 2004. In common with many other new Formula One circuits, it was designed by Hermann Tilke. It has been designed to look like the Chinese language|Chinese character shang (上), which means 'above' or 'ascend'. One lap lasts 3.4 miles (5.5 kilometres).
