1 Introduction
Tai Po

Tai Po district (大埔區; lit. "big steps") is one of the districts of Hong Kong|18 districts of Hong Kong. It is located in the New Territories. Population (2000): 321,500.

Like Yuen Long, Tai Po used to be a traditional market town. Tai Po New town has now a population of approximately 282,000 people. Upon full development, the population is expected to reach 283,000.

Hong Kong Note Printing Limited, which prints all the Hong Kong dollar|bank notes in Hong Kong, is located in the Tai Po Industrial Estate, an industrial area of light industries (food processing, printing, etc.)

This district is served by Tolo Highway, KCR East Rail and Tai Po Road. It is remindable that 71B, which runs between Fu Heng and Tai Po Centre, is the cheapest route in Hong Kong, with the fare of just HK$1.2 (US15c). Also, E41 (Long Win Bus), which runs between Tai Po Tau and Hong Kong International Airport is the cheapest bus route per kilometre. (HK$0.22/km, with total distance of 56.7km and full fare of HK$13)
