The city's name is Chinese for "Central Taiwan." Taichung City (台中市) is administratively a Provincial city|municipality of Taiwan Province of the Republic of China. It is surrounded completely by Taichung County. The city was formerly known as "Taiwan". Taichung is home to Chung-hsing University (中興大學), Fengchia University (逢甲大學), Providence University (靜宜大學), and Tunghai University (東海大學). Taichung is famous for suncakes (taiyang bing). Taichung's http://icetea.com.tw/ Chun Shui Tang teahouse (春水堂) is where bubble tea was invented. The city is also the birthplace of actress/singer Vivian Hsu.
