University of Macau

Wikipedia

The University of Macau (Universidade de Macau, 澳門大學, formerly known as University of East Asia), was established in 1981, which is the first university in Macao. The university on the Taipa Island expands dramatically in recent years to condition the rapid economic development and Macao's return to China to provide local talents in replacement of the colonial domain. Student enrollment rose from several hundreds in the 80s to over five thousands today and the percentage of Macao students soared from 39% to 90%.

The university has five research faculties in areas of Business Administration, Social Sciences and Humanities, Science and Technology, Law, and Education, and two education centres for Pre-University Studies, Continuing Studies and Special Programmes. It offers undergraduate, Master's, doctorate and Bacharelato (higher diploma) programmes with more than 350 academic staffs in teaching and research.

Since 1991, the university has established academic links and collaborations with more than 90 institutions around the world. It is a member of the International Association of Universities, the International Association of University Presidents, the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific and the University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific. The university's student exchange programmes currently bring over 100 students every year from Europe, Japan, New Zealand and the United States. Starting from 2001, the university has been recruiting students in 14 provinces and cities in China.
