Xidian University (西安电子科技大学) is a university located in Xi'an, People's Republic of China. The university was founded in 1931 in Ruijin (瑞金), Jiangxi under the name 'Radio School of Central Military Committee' (中央军委无线电学校). It is the first technical school established by the Communist Party of China. Later the school was moved from Zhangjiakou, Hebei to Xi'an in 1958. It was one of the first 20 national key universities in 1959. It became 'People's Liberation Army Institute of Telecommunication Engineering' (中国人民解放军军事电信工程学院) in 1960. In 1966, it changed from a military institute to 'Northwest Institute of Telecommunication Engineering' (西北电讯工程学院). In 1988, its name was changed to the current one. The current president is Duan Baoyan (段宝岩).
