Xingning used to be called Qichang (??????). Xingning county was established in 331, and upgraded to a city in 1994. Xingning was once the capital of Southern Han. Xingning is located at the east part of Guangdong province. The East River (Dongjiang River) and the Han River (Guangdong)|Han River flow through it. Xingning borders Meixian, Fengshun, Wuhua, Longchuan, Pingyuan, and Xunwu of Jiangxi province. Xingning is the second largest city in east Guangdong, with an area of 2105 <math>km^ 2</math> and a population of 1.13 million. Xingning governs 29 towns and 475 villages.
