Zhan Ziqian Wikipedia

Zhan Ziqian(展子虔) was a great painter of ancient China, and from Yangxin county(阳信县), Shandong province. His birth and death data are not quite clear. Although in Sui dynasty( 581 ? 618) he was appointed to an office of Chaosan Dafu(朝散大夫) and later of Zhangnei Dudu(帐内都督).

According to the histrical documents he painted a number of genre and religions paintings but not existed. The only his painting in existence is arranged mountains perspectively. It may be the first scenery painting of the world. In Europe the pure scenery paintings emerged merely after 17 century. So that he was the first scenery painter of whole world.
