China University of Mining & Technology (Beijing), or CUMT-Beijing was established on
the basis of Beijing Graduate School of China University of Mining & Technology (CUMT).
In 1978, with the approval of State Council, CUMT Beijing Graduate School started to enroll
postgraduate students and doctoral candidates. In 1997, with the approval of China Education
Commission (now China Ministry of Education) and Beijing Municipal Government, CUMT-Beijing
was developed into a multi-disciplinary polytechnic university in Beijing. CUMT-Beijing is
located on Xueyuan Road, the university zone in Haidian District of Beijing, with the National
Olympic Park to the east and the Summer Place, the Yuanmingyuan Ruins Park as well as the
Xiangshan Park to the west. The campus covers a total area of 217,000 square meters and a
floor space of 223,000 square meters. The university's fixed assets amount to 279.95 million RMB
and its library has holdings of 330,000 volumes.
China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) is well-established as a national university.
After more than ninety years of growth, it has fully developed in the fields of engineering,
sciences, liberal arts and management. It was natural, given the nature of China coal mining industry,
that the university should teach the major scientific and engineering disciplines in coal mining,
which still take priority in China and has become famous abroad. It was one of the first China
universities to establish a management department. The modern CUMT is equally known in resources
and geology science, mechanics and liberal arts.
